I just got a new Nvidia 9800gt and all the characters are solid black in dark areas of maps, i update the drivers and it still does it, why? can anyone help me?

what are the other stats of your rig?
what are you trying to run?

Well first, the following information would be helpful:

(1) What is the brand of your video card? Is it factory overclocked? Did you correctly plug in the power connector?
(2) What specific version is your driver?
(3) What game are you playing? When does it happen specifically? What settings and resolution are you running at?
(4) Does this issue occur in other games?
(5) What are the rest of the specifications of your computer?
(6) What is the wattage of your power supply?

its a dell e510
Pentium D CPU 2.8 Ghz
3gb ram
Nividia geforce 9800gt

I have been using a 7800gt and just wanted to step up a bit, when in certain games the characters are completly black in darker areas of the map, it looks as if its suppose to be that way but i really think its to dark, I am using 1920x1080 resolution
and the driver is whatever the newest one nvidia website has for download
As for updating the bios, can you help bc i am not sure who that works?

sounds like its a shading issue
try turning shading off in the game options.
Also try stepping down the resolution gradually and see if that cures your problem.

Levi, play around with the settings and try turning off AA. Also Dell has a few Bios rev for the motherboard u are using. I dont know why but i had the same issue when i went to my cur card...a 8800GTS 640mg. The res for your current screen will overwhelm your card if you have the every thing turned up. That XFX7800 GT lasted a while. Hope i could help....................................... Silver4Judas

lol whats up man, yeah i got it all worked out, it was the shader clock being overclocked to high..

Just sitting around with Aligators and stuff. My card just bit the dust , im sending it in under warr. What are you playing these days? I really havent played since are last game in 2142.... It really sucked being ownd by u!!!! LOL Guess i shouldnt have turned you on to it. I have Bf2,2142 , COD4, COD WatW... but just cant get urge to play with out old friends!

Playin with my brother alot, were playin bf2, cod4 and still counter strike source
think were maybe gona get left4dead2 but not sure yet, he really only likes to play bf2, you can find us on bf2 most nights and me on cod4 most days. Did you see any pictures of my dog?

Is V still around, I just dont see you with a dog unless a girl is living with you. I have to get my video card back from EVGA before im back playing.

On bf2 i am GoNzOGrApE and Keith is estwing07. No Va i am with a new girl now, Christina.
The dog was brought to me by Va and i decided i liked him so i capt him, he is so expensive its always 300$ here and 200$ there with him..ugh.
Yes i am training part time but my main thing is a Medical Transport company that me and my friend Bryntly have started where we do long distance transports of sick patients on Stretchers, its EMT work, we have an ambulance and are doing pretty decent with it. Been to Evey city in from Texas above and to the east, just came back from Chicago the other day. And was in Texas yesterday.
