Hi, I bought a new motherboard that supports SATA II, I have an old SATA I hard drive that is still working great and I want to use it with the new motherboard, can I install a SATA I drive in a SATA II port or will my motherboard reject it???
Motherboard is MSI p55 GD65
Hard drive is Seagate 160GB SATA I
Sata ports on most motherboards are always backward compactible, be Sata III or Sata II... So you should be good to go... Hey I love some of my old faithful drives, so I know how you feel... Good luck!
Thanks for the replies, my core i7 860 should be coming in a few days so I'm happy I will be able to finish my build even though I did not order the new hard drives yet. I am planning to replace the 160gb with WD 500GB caviar black for storage and OCZ 30GB SSD for OS (windows 7 Pro 64bit)
