It depends on the CPU and the board. I had an old system that ran 4Gb of DDR400 at only 333. I found out I needed a Prescott CPU and a bios update, but even then, I saw little to no performance boost on the old 478.

It should do. If it's only 533mhz I can't really say 'yes' though. If you had a board with support for 800Mhz FSB, then it would. I've got a few 3.0 Prescotts CPUs and a 3.2 Nortwood sitting around at home. Just got my server running 333Mhz with a 3.2 Prescott OC to 3.8 and 4Gb RAM, but it won't go to 400Mhz, the reason is that an old board isn't able to use everything to it's full potential.

You won't notice a difference between 333mhz and 400mhz with that chip anyway.

Getting a new board...good luck finding a good condition one, if you can find it, go nuts. There's no pin mod, just the Northwood CPUs that support hyperthreading, or Prescott CPUs. Northwood is slightly better when gaming, or basic tasks, but Prescott can be overclocked with little to no rise in temperature, however it can cause your capacitors to go boom. You can tell the difference between Northwood and Prescott by the L2 Cache. Northwood is 512kb, and Prescott is 1Mb. Good luck with it.
