Hello, I have a Synology DS211j with 1x 500gb drive. Can I take the drive out, and put in 2x 2tb drives and set them up in Raid 1, and then place the 500gb drive into my computer and transfer all the files onto the newer drives?

In theory that should work using Windows as long as the 500GB drive is formatted either FAT32 or NTFS.

should the drive have been formatted by the enclosure in EXT3 or EXT4 you could use a Linux Live CD to boot from and transfer the files.
