Hey guys, I've been lurking for a while and this will be my first actual post. I have two (rather old and clunky) desktop PC's and am looking to replace one with a gaming build. I'm going to give you guys the budget and see what you can do with it, details are below.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: I will be buying parts hopefully starting this week and start construction next week.
BUDGET RANGE: $800-$1000 After rebates.
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Mainly RTS gaming with some FPS on the side, think average gamer.
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, tower, DVD drive. I have a hard drive but I'll probably upgrade for more storage.
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Any website is acceptable
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States
PARTS PREFERENCES: No preference
OVERCLOCKING: No experience overclocking, I may look into it, as I hear it's much easier to do now.
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1440x900
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: None.

sli/crossfire: Maybe, I haven't been keeping up with hardware lately, will it be practical for the type of gaming I will be doing?
Not at the resolution you play. Even with that monitor I posted up above, dual vid cards would be over kill. If games get that demanding in a few more years, ebay your old vid card and get a new/faster one.
