I've recently been searching all of the internet to find a new system to build. I've been using Newegg mostly, and with the release of the I5 I've become quite excited.
This is my current computer:... roughly.
Dell XPS 410 case and PSU (375 watts?).
Geforce 8800GTS (92) 512.
Intel E6300 at 1.86
250 gig hard drive at 7200 RPMs.
4 gigs of 667mhz ddr2 (only running 3 due to 32 bit XP)
and one of those crummy Dell Motherboards. So basicly my question stands:
Should I go ahead and build an entirely new computer based of the I5?
I can afford about 1100 dollars worth of equipment, but quite honestly feel queasy about spending that much.
So would it be entirely out of reach if I were to buy an I5 and a P55 (get out of Dell. ) and some DDR3 RAM, and just keep my current graphics card? I could even wait for the new DX11 cards. Or the price drop on the DX10s.
Right? Would I better to future proof myself, and maximize the frame rate in most upcoming games? What on my current system is holding me back? Should I upgrade to Vista and get the free windows 7 upgrade now?
you can do a nice i5 with a new GPU and monitor for about 1K, if you like to keep your GPU thats fine but we need to know some more info and the rez of your monitor.
Current monitor resolution is 1920 x 1080. Which is abit high considering my frame rate fetish and current set up. I'm looking forward to PC games such as, but not limited too: Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Starcraft 2, bioshock 2, Supreme Commander 2... ect. Pretty graphic intensive games as such. Would I greatly enhance my frames on such future games if I were to only buy the I5 and not a new graphics card?
I love me some eye candy, but favor frames far more. I also greatly dislike playing below the native res. So basically. I don't want to spend 1k at the moment due to buying a car soon. But would also like a frame improvement.

if you live by a micro center you can save more off the CPU. Would you be opened to a AMD build ? we could save more there and still get good eye-candy and FPS.

I would not use that PSU its not the best and could lead to problems.
We might be able to use your HDD and DVD if you could post them
micro boards are smaller to fit into smaller cases, and have fewer PCI PCI-E slots (that i5 board i posted has 1 PCI-E slot for a single card setup so no sli or xfire same with the AMD board.
both AMD and intel are good for what you need.

That's quite a bit lower then my 1100 dollar expectation. I can salvage my old 8800gts. Tests its ability at future games, and adjust accordingly. Along with take advantage of the price drops that the PC world knows as an inevitable. I can also just use my old DVD drive, and format my old HDD and prepare it for an extra computer around the house. or use it as a secondary drive.
Do you guys see any faults? I'll need some paste. But eh. That's 7 bucks.
Any critiques? I'm not sure about that one other website. Looked up some reviews. Kinda shabby.
