Hello, & Welcome to Tom's Hardware!

Go to the Device manager, and see if the USB removable drive is listed there.
Then go to Disk Management, and in the lower graphical section, please list what it says under the DriveStatus column and VolumeStatus column. Also what is the color band above the VolumeStatus area for this drive?

Better yet, please post an image of Disk Management for us to review. Can use Photobucket, or Imageshack, or other site. That's the fastest and most accurate way to make progress.

For completeness, check in the BIOS to see if it is recognized.
Then with the computer off, unplug and replug the USB cable and try a different USB port on the desktop to see if that works.
