My Philips SA series 2 is becoming posessed..

A few weeks ago it reported that it had no subscription, and couldn't
do any of the subscription-enabled functions (essentially dead). but
the System Information screen showed that I had Lifetime Service.

A restart got it working again.

Tonight, I got home to a previously-unseen episode of Law & Order
beginning, so I told it to record it and then went out.
When I got back, it still said it was recording, but when I tried to
PLAY it, it said it was unable to play because there was no video
signal when it was recording. I tried to cancel the recording, but it
just ignored it. I couldn't delete it either.

After a restart, I was able to play the program, but it's incomplete.
(I guess it was actually recording), though there was a different show
playing in "live" mode.

Any idea if a failing drive can cause problems like this?
