Hello All,

I've gone through a lot of posts for the same question. But i'm not able to make up my mind. I've got a HP a6540in PC. Planning to get a graphic card for it. After going through the discussions most of them recommend going for ATI. I'm not sure if i should be using ATI on a nvidia chipset. Here is the PC configuration:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc [...] ct=3750810

I've shortlisted 9800GT. My budget is between 100-110 USD or 5-6K INR. What would be the best one to buy. I'm open for ATI, provided it works well for me. I plan to play mostly FPS games like COD4, Op Flash Point...and want to play it with full settings.

I've got a 250W PSU which i want to upgrade. I plan to get a 460W. Will that be OK?

Thanks,
Saurabh.

A 4830's performance is similar to an overclocked 9800GT(But the 4830 still would be little more powerful)

Whether a 350W would be able to power that card or not, would depend on the quality of that PSU...
A high quality 350W PSU should be able to power the 4830...But if it is a low quality one, then I doubt it would...

And there would be no problems using an ATI card with Nvidia chipset.

For that price range, the ATI card that you should be looking at is the HD 4850. And it is more powerful than the 9800GT.
As for the PSUs, even an Antec EA 380W can run the HD 4850 or the 9800GT...

Thanks for your reply. I have a few more queries. HD 4850 is little out of my budget. Its expensive here in India. How about a HD 4830? And for the power supply can a 350 do? And ATI should not be a problem with the nvidia chipset?

Increase your budget to 6-7K INR and get the HD 4850.
It is available for around 6.7K And 9800GT is 5.6K.
But 4850 is noticeably faster and will last for a longer time.

Don't tell me you are thinking about Coolermaster 460W?

Yeah...i was planning to get that...but i might also go for a LG 600 which is around 2k or may be a VIP which is around 1.5K

Of all those I would say VIP is the best.
Don't go for a CM PSU...They are not good enough.

I strongly recommend Corsair CX400.
It will be the best choice.

And if you can't get that,Then get a Gigabyte Superb 460W.

Thanks for the recommendation....Corsair is pretty expensive for me....but then I would now definitely for a HD4050 and a Gigabyte Superb 460W OR a VIP PSU OR Antec 380W...whichever is cheaper.... :D

thanks everyone for help

Gigabyte is the cheapest of the lot.
It will be around Rs2200.

Actually 3-4 months ago I planned to upgrade my GPU and PSU.
I ended u buying a 9800GT(Zotac,cost around 5.8k) And the corsair CX400 for 3k.

Well the corsair seems expensive but it is worth every penny.

Well here is the link for gigabyte Superb price...
