Memory upgrade for Dell Optiplex

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 Small Form Factor. (2 memory slots) Dell says 2048 max memory.
It has ddr2 memory, I have tried 2 * 2GB ddr2 from Crucial and just get a beep, no POST.
Anyone make 4GB memory work.
Same question for a Dell Optiplex GX280 Small form factor

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

No, as DELL says you only can install 2GB max. You get the beep because the mobo don't support the 2x2GB, that's 2GB per slot, the GX270 SFF and GX280 SFF only support 1GB per slot for 2GB max.
