so i was just wondering what would be better for gaming? ive heard that the i5s are better but their mobos dont support x16 x16 in crossfire, whereas the amd mobos do. i am almost certain i will get another 4890 for build in the future, but which motherboard + cpu combo should i go with?

a build with a 790FX board(the only AMD board to support 16x/16x crossfire) will cost you more than an i5 build and the i5 will out perform it at everything except GPU limited gaming. Most cards dont saturate 8x/8x crossfire anyway and with the way the new single cards from ATI are looking you might not need to crossfire for quite a while.
