Hi guys,

I have a NAS with FTP on it and want to connect when away from home.

The Router is a Net gear DG824GT I think i have done all the correct steps to get it working i.e Port forwarding (21) and allowing the firewall plus remote management, but when i put the address in the web it wont connect.

what web address should it be and where can i find it?

Cheers

Justin

It's your Internet IP address. http://myipaddress.com will display it. If you don't have a static IP address, then it might change regularly, making it somewhat difficult to connect to your NAS. You can connect to your NAS using the Internet IP address only when at another location. At home you have to use the NAS' local IP address.

Thanks Ghislain, I can get into my router via this ip address but not the NAS! Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with your router, but here are a couple possibilities:

- You are not redirecting FTP (port 21) to the NAS or it's not enabled
- The default gateway on the NAS is not the router
- You have a firewall blocking port 21
- Your ISP doesn't allow servers and blocks port 21
