2tb WD external drive just received..tried using paragon to back up my windows 7 laptop...all worked fine...took it to my XP PC, new motherboard just last year, and half way thru paragon backup it gave me a dire warning cant write to drive, all data lost...also the files from the other backup didnt show up on the machine...here's what i did after rebooting the PC

Checked thru control panel ..the drive showed up properly

Tried the paragon program again.half way thru showed same error..no dice

Went to control panel..the drive was saying 1.8T drive 1.8T free..um..no

Went to explorer and the folder names were visible but no files showed in the folders from the laptop backup

Unplugged the usb and plugged it in…all files visible again and in control panel all showed up OK

Downloaded easeus , a free program from download .com….ran it then went to bed.

Woke up and same error, cant write to the drive

I guess I have no choice but RMA? It’s definitely not the programs I’m using since I tried 3 different programs (also did western digital acronis)..and it’s plugged directly in the back of the PC so I cant blame the hub. i dont know what else to do

I'm at the same problem now Luckydriver- did you ever get a reply?
How did you resolve it?

How about writing zeros to the drive &/or reformatting it- can I? and how??]
then maybe recover my data with software?
