What is the big deal with these new Intel i processors they run at low clock-speeds and you pay so much money for them?
Can someone please tell me why they are good I

1.Is that a low speed?
2. When did exactly the speed of the processor started to be more important than the overall performance of that CPU?

Just because a cpu has a higher clock speed doesn't necessarily mean its better. Its all about architecture my friend. The Nahalem architecture (i5-i7) is much more efficient than, say, the Phenom II or even the Core 2 architecture. Therefore, a 2.66ghz core i7 can easily best a 3.4ghz Phenom II, or a 3ghz core 2 quad. Hope that helped clear things up a bit.

Clock speed does not equal processing speed and power. The i5 may only run 2.66GHz (more accurately, 2.8-3GHz due to turbo modes), but in doing so, it has about the same processing power as a Phenom II at 3.4GHz. This is why it is important to look at benchmarks rather than just clockspeeds.
