Hey guys I just ordered the parts for my first personal built computer. I decided to build a desktop because I wanted a desktop for home use, and also because my IBM thinkpad T60 isn't as powerful as I wanted to do 3D modeling in CATIA or Solidworks. Here's what I ordered so far:

Monitor: Hanns-G 24.6" LCD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 20g%2024.6

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

Memory: Muskin XP 4GB DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro 700w
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

Case: Cooler Master 690
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

I chose that motherboard because it had integrated grahpics with HDMI and 1080p video and I figured it would make setup easier and buy me some time to figure out a graphics card.

Keeping in mind that I do not game much at all, what graphics card would you reccomend for me? I was looking towards XFX as a brand, their 4850 card has my eye right now:

Let me know what kind of card you think I should get and why. Also, should I look into getting more significant cooling for my AMD processor? The Domino ALC caught my eye on google. Thanks for all your help!

Well, XFX is a decent company for a graphics card. I prefer Nvidia over ATI/AMD but that is more of a personal preference. Do you plan on doing intense gaming and how soon do you want the new card? Ati will be launching their new line in a few months and nvidia is sure to announce theirs shortly as well. Personally i would wait it out for the new card and get the flagship card. If you want to save a buck, wait for the new line to come out and buy up an old card that dropped its price when the new one came out.

Thanks for your response, I had read elsewhere on this forum that it was sugguested to wait for the new ATI release. I probably won't be getting the most expensive card out there, I have set myself a theoretical budget limit of around $200.

Well, i would say wait and you can probably get a 4870 which is a great card. I prefer nvidia but they just cost more but you do get better performance most of the time. So get whichever side you prefer. If you go for Nvidia then a 260 or higher will suit you nicely.
