Intriguing. I sure hope that is not what they are calling the dual card, because that is a stupid name and just a copy off NVidia if it is (GTX285 > GTX295).
Not only would it mean bad news for Nvidia, but in the very rare event that Nvidia comes out with a card that is better than 5870 AND costs the same, this will be their saving grace and once again put them ahead of the Green...
In my opinion it'll be a card(s) similar to the 5870/5850 but it'll have a wider memory bus than the 5870/5850's 256, maybe it'll be 384 or perhaps even more...
Who knows, but this is very interesting and it seems that Nvidia is running a little late.

If it does exist, it's probably the 6-screen eyefinity version of the 5870. It might have a larger bus, but I doubt it. If it does, it should be a monster of a card.

Wouldn't a 5970 or a 5950 be in the same performance area as a 5870x2? So wouldn't the making of a 5970 or a 5950 make the 5870x2 useless (I mean, if they perform the same and one is a single card, who would people choose? I would go for the single one, tbh).
So, it makes more sense that the 5970 and the 5950 are just the x2 versions. I don't think ATi would want to have two different cards from the same generation and for the same performance.
My guess would be that they would be slightly better versions of the 58xx series, like what they did with the 4890. But who knows, it might be their new X2 cards.
Or they're just toying with us. I'd do that too if I were a driver writer, just throw in a fake card now and then to see what ruckus I could cause.
But in reality, the fact that the X2 card is not listed although we know it has been made and is running gives a pretty strong hint as to what these are, though I sure hope that is not the case.
Seems like its going to be 5970 and 5950, probably ditching the x2 nomenclature altogether.
Though, tbh I dont see them doing it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is just more news coming out of AMD. They have been on a constant media blitz for months now, dunno if anyone else noticed but the amount of news, rumours and heresay coming out of AMD these days - big and small - is far beyond what it used to be.
