I don't know what the prices are in Europe, but you should try to get a 5850 instead of the 4890. Faster, uses less power, newer etc... Only thing is price :-\
well build, you were bang on about me being Irish and about hardwareversand.
Now then, the case: I've already looked at both [storm scout/haf 922] and my opinion keeps going back and forth between them although I may go with your recommendation then since I don't know anyone personally that has the scout. Or if anyone that has the scout, could you kindly give your opinion on it. Thanks in advance
My browser is being a douche and not letting me open the link, so if you could write the name i'll track it down, thanks in advance.
On the Psu, I'm still unsure whether or not to simply, like dna and bowl said, get the 5850. Which means I can get the 650HX and be in budget which is €1000-€1050. Or go crossfire with two 4890's in the near future.
I shall be looking forward to that monitor then Oh and once agian wtf on the mind reading build
Anyway, back on topic. The mobo I linked is the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P for €134.67. It has two PCI-E slots for crossfire/SLI running at x16, which is all you'll need really.
For the GPU, a 5850 would still be within your budget. You can buy a second 5850 later on and run the two in crossfire when you need a bit more grunt. It should be cheaper by then too.
As for the PSU, if your going with a single 5850, the Corsair VX 550W for €71 would be a good choice or a 600W from a reliable brand. 650W is a bit much for a single GPU in my opinion, unless it's the GTX 295 which is basically two cards in one unit. As I mentioned earlier, if you plan to crossfire two 4890's or two 5850's in the future, I'd recommend 750W.
Ah but the GD70 is only €4/5 more expensive so why not for the extra pcie slots, even if they'll go x16/x16/x8/x8 or all x8 if i ever go off my tree and put four gfx cards in there. Plus it looks, imo, a lot better. Although yes the Gigabyte would be the smarter option, I just think the MSI one is a lot better looking and it performs on the same par. [Thanks youtube for video reviews ]
I will however be going with your recommendation of case. Does look a lot cooler. <--[fail pun]
And yes I'll be getting a 5850, DirectX11 and lower power consumption here I come!
Do you really need four PCI-E slots? Even if you put a 3rd GPU in, there won't be a substantial performance increase and there will be a lot more heat + noise, not to mention you'd need a much bigger PSU. Gigabyte is a better brand and it's €5 cheaper. MSI is not exactly known for it's longevity, the only reason it's slightly more expensive is because of the extra 2 PCI-E slots which you probably won't use.

Ok build, you win i'll go Gigabyte. However, I have heard great reviews for both of those mobo's and I was never considering a third Gpu. 4 Pcie slots were just going to be there for back up.
And lol at a couple of YEARS. Probs a 11/13 months and I'll be doing crossfire.
Enywayz, all has been ordered and will post my feelings on it once I've built the thing. Thanks guyz
I want to build an almost identical build(5850 now with options for 2 of them later, similar size budget and prupose) but everyone recommended i got for the intel i5 750 instead of the Phenom II 955. Any thoughts on using an intel chip as an alternative?
The thing being is do you want a cpu that will give great performance in applications. e.g. photoshop, cad, etc. [i5]
Or do you want one thats a bit cheaper that will perform "smoother" in games, in my own personal experience.[955]
Also are you planning on overclocking? If not I'd get the i5 since the reason why the 955 is a little more expensive than it should be is the unlocked multiplier.
Another note, the i5's motherboards will only accept ddr3 while the 955 is backwards compatible with am2+ boards and ddr2.
Really depends on personal preferance imho.
