Windows xp startup ok then monitor goes black

After the Windows Xp loading screen the monitor goes completely black. I Installed some music software that I bought and didnt download and those are the only 2 programs I have installed on my computer since formatting it. I have pressed F8 on start up and tried every option. Im lost and need help.

And just to clarify, your monitor goes black, not "searching for input" or anything like that?
