I currently have the E6700...would this be a significant upgrade for games?

Not at all. It would be a downgrade. I can't think of a game that would benefit from this kind of "upgrade" you are asking about, especially if ypu are overclocking youe E6700. But an overclock Q8200 will be better than a stock E6700.

What resolution do you game at?
Which gfx card do you have?

I agree with both people who posted before me and I would say a good upgrade will be Q9400.

But if you OC your E6700 it may last an year or so whit medium settings.
