wonder if a 5870 owner can help me out, during building my new pc i forgot to connect the 12v atx so when powering up the pc wouldnt boot, i noticed this after about 5 mins and sorted out. but when the pc was powering up but not booting i noticed that the XFX 5870 fans blew quite hard, now ive connected the 12v atx on the mobo and the new pc boots fine but the 5870's fans dont blow very hard at all anymore.
is this normal will the fans kick in properly when its under load?
cheers
The fans are automated, basically they spin faster then the temeratures get higher.
To get the temps of your card, download Hard-Ware Monitor from CPUID. This'll let you take the temperatures of your card.
cheers shadow, guess cause i didnt have the mobo connected properly when the power came on the XFX fans came on full blast but now its operating normal.
On boot, they spin up full speed momentarily. But the fan speed is contrlloled by the GPU temperature. The hotter your card gets, the faster the fan spins. In normal browsing the fan should be at the lowest setting and relatively quiet. But once you start playing games the fan will kick up. If the fan sounds like a typhoon all the times, only then do you have a problem.
