New system fill in the blanks fun

the wife is going to let me build a new system for my bday
id like to keep it under 1500us. what it will be used for: htpc/workstation/emulation. not in that order. (the type of emulation is for training myself on ciscos routers)

my thoughts so far, ive been using asus since 95 and i dont like change so ill say that up front. i was thinking i7 920 for the processor, and you better beleave im going to try and melt that sucker, saying that id like to use air cooling. i want to watch movies and possably play games in 3D so i think that limits my video card to nvidia?
