System time and date not working

Every time I turn my computer on (Win XP) the date and time starts counting from the first of January 2012 0:00 again. No matter how many times I change and syncronize it, it always happens again when I have turned my computer off. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Because I do not think that the battery is the problem, as the system does not gradually looses time but every time starst counting again...

Many thanks!!

  1. Change the battery, because that is exactly what happens. The battery is only used to keep time when the power is off; it does not power the clock all the time.
