I have a case, with 2 usb ports, an input and output for audio on front. The firewire card im putting in has a firewire header inside. Would it be possible for me to add a firewire port to the front of the case? or am i better off just buying a longer firewire cable?

What do I do for a case that has a spot to put a port, like i could punch it out, but it has no wires...?

you'll need something like this.

you'll have to put holes on either side of the punch out, unless there's something in your case's bezel designed to hold it.

If your case doesn't already have a port that's just unwired, you'll have to get a 3.5" or 5.25" bay faceplate that has a firewire port. Attach that to your firewire header and it should work fine. Basically it comes down to how much you want to spend on the faceplate adapter, they range from simple card reader types, to complex fan controllers with temp and fan data displays.

for 10 bucks, that seems like a much better option than the 5.25 inch drive bay or the extension cable! thanks.
