What's better: RAID controller card or RAID on the MB?

I am still investigating installing 3 drives on the computer below in my signature. Will I see more or less speed with a separate RAID controller card versus the onboard RAID through my mobo?

The RAID card will only make the setup simpler. It will likely have a similar type of RAID controller chip as the mainboard already has, so performance will be very similar.
