help please - i have the option of having a new pc bought for xmas, and i have had a look, and was looking for some advice.

Which is the better one out of these:

1 - acer x1300 amd phenom quad core, 2.1 ghz. 2gb ddr2, 320gb hdd, vista premium.

2 - compaq presario intel pentium dual core e5300, 2.6ghz, 2gb ddr3, 320gb hdd, windows 7.

is the intel celeron cpu still the less powerful of the intel chips, and is the e5300 the newest one?

Many thanks

Depends on the price. If the quad core is energy saving or an old phenom I, then the compaq presario would be just as good. I use a compaq presario, and it runs great, especially with windows 7.

I would go for the Compaq with the E5300. The Acer has an older Phenom I in it and those were just awful. The Celeron Dual cores are a little slower than the regular core 2 duos because they have lower cache but they are some good performers. How much were you wanting to spend on this, I could look around and see if I could find anything better.

the quad core is a 9450e, and comes with a 19" monitor for £329.

the dual core also comes with 19" monitor for £359.99.

i have used vista before and found it to be a bit annoying, especially as it keeps asking for premission to do things. I have heard good things about windows 7, is it really that good?

its a desktop, and we will use it for some games, browsing, our children will use it for internet etc.

Opps. Normally when i hear compaq i think laptop. So i though you were look at laptops.

anyways. For you price, i would get this

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1281977760.1261347008@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdeadejedellgkcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=519083&category_oid=

Although for gaming, i would recommend adding a graphic card in the future.

Question, Do you need any thing else for the computer? monitor, keyboard, ect?

to be honest, i have now gone for the compaq, as we needed a decent monitor anyway. If i really wanted to play the top end games, our children have got a wii and xbox 360 anyway. In the future, i may get a better graphics card, but this will do for now.

Well as long as your happy. were happy. Hope you enjoy you new computer.

The new celeron's ala E3200 and E3300 are just a E5200 and E5300 with 1 less mb of cache and if you look in my sig are no slouch's when it comes to overclocking :)
Yes, but shays says he is buying a Compaq with an undoubtedly locked BIOS. So any OC capabilities of the CPU won't matter.
