Its not a problem, but they might be more knowledgeable about memory problems. Also, I am really surprised that I am the only one working on this, but it is Friday Night, so....
I suggest posting in the memory section as well, just to get it all out there and see who else can help you.
So it looks like the mobo supports up to 8gigs of ram, so that isn't the problem.
I did see somewhere that the chipsets of some mobos are limited to 32 bit, which may cause this problem, but that was with Vista only registering 3gigs. I gather the vid card has 512mb of memory on board, so it seems like at the least the computer should be registering 3 or 2.5 gigs. The 2 gigs are a little weird. Have you tried switching which sticks are in which channels?
I agree with all posts on this. I have put this out before, but to get four sticks of memory to work with a 680i you have two choices: Pump up the juice or drop it to 667. As for two different types, I can’t give you a definitive answer other than to say it probably is not helping the matter.
The OP of that thread, New Madrid, fixed his issue by:
Thanks to everyone who read my post. I started by taking out all the RAM, checking each stick to make sure each one worked. After reseating them, all 8 gigs worked!!! Who knows. - New Madrid
Let us know how it goes. If that doesn't work try each stick individually, then try them in sets of two, see if you can track down if there is an actual problem with the sticks themselves.

not all it, when the mobo posts it says 4 gigs every time but it still only uses 2 gigs. How do you think I could fix this, New ram? new shoes? help old people cross the street? or what? lol
