Laptop SATA Hard Drive not recognized

I have purchased 2 different laptops from our state surplus property facility. One had a Hard Drive one didn't. On both Laptops I cannot get the Bios to show a HDD. One came with the original drive the other I purchased one for it. I have a bootable CD to load windows but windos set up doesnt see a HDD either. I have no idea why they are not recognized but I have tried swapping the drives and everything nothing will work. The laptops are different models and so are the HDDs. Any ideas?????

  1. Connect the original drive to a SATA port on a desktop machine, or install it in a USB enclosure. Then run the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics against it.
