Hey everyone,

I just built a new PC, here are the specs:

Intel Core i5
Asus Radeon 5850
500gb 7200 rpm HDD
4GB 12800 RAM
650w PSU
Vista 64bit

Anyways, I have everything set up and running, but it won't let me change the resolution to my monitor's native resolution 1680x1050. The highest I can go is 1440x900. I have a Samsung SyncMaster T220.

Anyone know what the problem may be? I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

Check two things.

1. Did you install a driver for your monitor? Although Windows does not control the monitor directly, a driver for it tells Windows what the monitor is able to do. Without that, Windows will try to limit output to a short list of common capabilities.

2. If that does not fix it, look through the details of setting the video output. Usually there's an option to hide video modes that are not "allowed" - this is to prevent you from sending an impossible signal to your monitor and ruining it. But sometimes you have to un-hide those modes to be able to find what you really need.
