I installed a genuine copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on a Desktop which currently had Xp Home as operating system. I have successfully managed to install Vista. But when I restart or shut down, a quick message comes up saying "booting windows vista" and then restarts again. And continues to go through the restart process.
Sorry about that. My computer is an Advent T9200. Its got P4 3.4 HT (FSB 800) and it has an MSI TG-865PE-V2 Motherboard, 1.0gb memory, 256 Nvidea graphics. It originally had XP home, but I thought it would be good if I updated to Vista ultimate. Every time I turn on the computer, it keeps restarting. Thanks
From the looks of it your stats look pretty low, I dont know the exact stats off the top of my head but is your computer capable of running vista? I know Microsoft has a tool that will check your system stats before install to see if your computer is up to the task.

Could be a driver problem. Cycle restarts is a result of BSOD which happen very fast, you would not notice it. I'm not truly familiar with vista but you can try to boot in safe mode.
