Single long beep sound on system startup

when the system is powered on, the MB, fans, cd drives are getting the power but single long beep sound is coming with the time interval of 5 secs. Initially there was two RAM (DDRII) one is 1 gb and another is 256 mb i have interchanged both the RAM in both the slots. But the system with or without the RAM its arising the Single long beep sounds what could be the problem....
any comments will be really helpful

Take the 256 out - it is never a good idea to 'mix 'n match' DIMMs - and often simply won't work; if you use multiple sticks of memory, they all need to be identical.

Uninstall the memory modules and the graphic card. Clean the dust from the slots and from the conectors of the modules and the card and install them again.
