I have this problem that you describe.

Microsoft tells me my computer is infected with a virus.

BitDefender has scan my computer for hours and found no infections.

Microsoft Malicious Software remover scaned my computer for 5 hours, and found no infections.

Whose right?

I want to know how to solve this problem? It seems that Microsoft server is not responding to my upgrade reaquest.

Why can't I get the security upgrades from a third party and install those.

Please insert the Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.
Click Start, then Run
Copy and paste the command below into the text box (with out the quotation marks)
sfc /scannow
Click Ok
During the scan you may be asked to Insert the A Windows XP CD, if this happens just click retry and let it do its thing.

If problem is not solved then try this::

Click Start => My computer, on the mneu bar click Tools => Folder options, click on the tab View, tick Show hidden files and folders also untick Hide protected operating system files, click Apply => Ok.

Double click on C:\ => Windows => Inf, find ie.inf right click on it and click Install

When finshed restart your computer

hope the problem is fixed.

Thanks for the solution. Can you tell me how this works?

Microsoft engineers were unable to solve this problem other than to suggest clean off your hard drive and start over - you have a bad virus lurking somewhere that lies to all the virus programs and your computer is compromized. SCARE SCARE.
