This will be my second build. I built a gaming computer 5 years ago and bought a laptop when that one went out on me. I hate to say it but I stopped keeping track of pc components the last couple of years so I have no idea where to start when it comes to what is the latest and greatest for gaming.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Three weeks give or take a week
BUDGET RANGE: $1000 after rebates. Would consider this a little higher if I can get considerable gains from it.
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, internet, and video editing
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, mouse, speakers, and sound card.
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com but will consider others.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: US
PARTS PREFERENCES: Prefer a 21"+ monitor
OVERCLOCKING: Possibly in the future SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Possibly in the future
MONITOR RESOLUTION: Dependent upon monitor
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Best bang for the buck. I would like a fairly quiet running pc that I can update in a year or two without having to update the whole thing. I mainly play fps games with a few others mixed in.

I threw this system together quickly tonight. As you can see it puts me over my $1,000 goal after rebates by about $250. Anyone have any suggestions on where I could cut back while also having minimal losses on gaming?
Edit: Just noticed I forgot to put a HDD in here so that means I really need to drop some $$$ somewhere in this system. Thanks

1- no to that Psu, for 1 car solution you dont need more then 700w, I recomend : CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139006
2- AMD does give you the best bang for the buck, but with your budget i5 is possible, and as it is not to argue that AMD is the best for the budget, is either to argue that intel is better performance, i5 beat 965 in many bench test, therefor it beats the 955 as well. I recomend this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.245501
3- + on the memory exactly what I recomend, really good reviews too : G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ - Retail
4- unless i missed something, you didnt include a hard drive, I'll give my recommendation if re-using your old hard drive than i'll just say this is the fastes hard drive that will save you money to put towards something better, like a video card: AMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822152181
5- sure a good big case is nice to have, but for budget this is where most of our money is cut, to put on other more important components, not to worry, as we have our cooler master friends to help, so for the money is a really good choice: COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

6- for the monitor you buying something between 21 and 23 inches correct..just let me have a moment of silence for the overkill you doing to that 5870.....look if that isn't your 3rd monitor for an eyefinity configuration then just dont, a 4890 will be more than adequate at the resolution, if looking for direct x11, yes lookig into the future is a good thing, for pc building, but dont you think if you get a 4890 and save , buy 2 more monitors, by then cheaper and then grab the 5870 also at a cheaper price would be better, and then you will have games that support direct x11, right now there arent that many titles.
6a- so for my video card i recomend this : SAPPHIRE 100269HDMI Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102852
6b- and for a monitor a 22" at a really good price, got one myself, couldnt be happier: LG W2242T-BF Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 8000:1(700:1) - Retail

I have my case inside a office desk, but i have my CPU OC @3.8 with a dark knight cooler and my GPU fan to 75% when gamming and i dont have heat problems. The OC CPU runs @ 55C when under load and 40C sitting. I also live in SoCal and room temp is @ 80F. It seems ok to me.
