We have a Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS IPILP-LC HP/Compaq name: Lancaster8-GL6 Socket 775 533 MHz, 800 MHz (processor dependent) Intel 945GC Chipset •System BIOS core brand: AMI •Keyboard combination to used to enter BIOS: F10 We upgraded the processor to an Intel E8500 because someone told us it was compatible. It turns on but the monitor says "no signal" I cleared the CMOS and BIOS passwords but still no luck. Any suggestions or is this processor just incompatible with this motherboard?

your motherboard may need a BIOS update or it could be that the motherboard does not support the E8500 Wolfdale CPU. Check the motherboard manufacturer's website and see if that E8500 is supported. If it is, you'll likely need to update the BIOS, in that case, you'll need to throw in the old CPU that you had in there and update the BIOS, then you will be able to put the E8500 in.

How big of deal would it be to upgrade my motherboard to go with the W8500?

only issue is that you have an HP/Compaq, they use proprietary crap for motherboards/cases/power supplies, etc... might want to make sure that a new motherboard would fit into the case. a micro-ATX motherboard might be able to fit into the HP/Compaq case...
