My sony vaio laptop wont turn on

Hi, i have a sony vaio laptop and when i turn it on the screensaver comes up but the icons dont. so i turn it of and try again and then suddenly the icons appear and all is ok. then when i'm on line the screen goes blank then comes on again.
any ideas?

Go to display in control panel and change screen saver settings to NEVER.
