I've tried but have been unable to locate anything in the bio's to activate the SATA ports. The drive was formatted on my son's computer when we were testing the functionality of the drive.

There has to be a numbered SATA port on the motherboard into which the SATA cable from the hard drive was plugged into. Make a note of this SATA port number.

Get into the BIOS and activate this SATA port by number. Unused ports are turned OFF at the factory. Whenever a device (HDD, DVD drive) is added, the SATA port into which the cable is plugged into must be activated (ON).

Your user's manual will explain this.
