Intel MOBO "integrated souncard" busted???

Is it possible to encounter a defective integrated sound card a few years after it had worked?

I'm asking this question because I encountered it. A few years ago, I was using an intel DQ965GF MOBO. The integrated soundcard got busted 2 years after i bought it.

I really had no idea as to why it happened or how. I've discarded that old board of mine but the mystery still lingers in my thoughts. Can someone shed light on this

matter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sure it could happen. If a connection in it got loose or broken that could cause it to stop working (while the rest of the board still does).
