I want to make a lan computer and need help picking a cpu and mobo combo. I was first thinking off using a ud2 and i7 860 that would cost me $400, or i can get an i5 750 and a asus maximus gene 2 which would cost the same amount. Basically it comes down to either a better cpu but not so good motherboard, or good mother board and worse cpu.

this may be a stupid question.....but what exactly do you mean by 'lan computer'

do you mean an internet server that every computer on your home network connects to the internet through?

if you were doing this you should just get a router.....

i mean computer that I will bring to places frequently and will be in a small case so will need micro atx.
