Well the title says it all I'm just trying to upgrade my graphics card and the card that I want is a PCIe 2.0 x16.

yes, i have a hd4870 512mb and thats a PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphics card but my motherboard only has PCI-E x16 (not 2.0) and it works like a charm

Yes the card will work fine on a PCEe 1.0 x 16. Most cards dont even use the bandwidth of the old x16 slot so you wont loose any performance by using a PCE 2.0 card in a 1.0 slot.
