Greetings one and all.
It has been many years since i guilt a new PC and i am way behind in the times. ive done some reading and think ive got the basics of whats went down since i build my last PC. so here goes the plan, ive started with a budget of 750$ to build a new box. i wish to overclock a bit on the CPU, but thats about it, any other overclocking to memory and video will be ok but not necessary.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This Week
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: , gaming, internet, movies)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers,
PREFERRED WEBSITE newegg

PARTS PREFERENCES: Intel, Nvidia chip

OVERCLOCKING: Yes Prossesor

MONITOR RESOLUTION: max 1440x900, but may upgrade in a few months

heres what i got so far all this is from newegg glad to see some things haven't changed :)

Possessor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz
CPCooling: ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L
Memory : 2X Mushkin 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Model 991599
Video Card: MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv3 GeForce GTX 260
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

what do you guys think.? what should/could i do to tweak this and still stay in budget

these items put me at 680.00 Apox
so that leaves 70.00 for a PSU and a Case

im not picky on cases although i do want somthing smaller than my current case which is to large for my needs
PSU is an issue i need to research more but if i can get by with a mediocre one i will

Thank you all for your time and attention

its hard to get a case and PSU with only 70, because you never want to get a mediocre PSU, take a look at this video to see why, btw its a 450 watt raidmax

What are you going to be using this box for? Mostly gaming? If so at what resolution? I wouldnt go for an E8500 its significantly more than the E8400 for a tiny increase in clock speed.

I would actually suggest this setup instead, it will save you a little bit and give you a high clocked quad instead of a dual core which will be more useful in the future.

you would need DDR3 ram instead but you should still be well within your budget.

+1

I would try this build add GPU depending on your rez, leaves you 170 for a GPU

Thanks for all the Ideas, i edited my first post for more clarity pefer an intel build over an AMD ive had trouble in the Past with AMD systems and am now very gun shy of them sorry :(

This build puts you a tad over budget, but its alot better then a EOL socket. This will run games mid to high setting on most games with a rez of 1680x1050

buy this combo and save 10 bucks on MOBO/CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.270438

If you really want a GTX 260, buy the HSF latter and you will have the 30 bucks more it will cost over the 4870.

I would really pass on the 775 socket its EOL

Intresting Build
change out the Radon for an Nvidia Card and a full size ATX Mobo i would consider somthing like this. i never gave much thought to my build being end of the line. we can drop the dvd burner and cpu compound i have those :) so it saves some money.
