We have a Satellite 1905-S303 laptop that we purchased a year or so ago. It
has a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM SD-R2212 drive and we would like to upgrade this drive
with a multiformat CD/DVD writer.
Can this be done and if so is the Toshiba SD-R6372 CD/DVD drive the way to
go or is there a better CD/DVD drive for this Toshiba laptop available?

Paul and Leni yes you can use the sd-r6372 it will fit perfectly in
your bay. You have to disconnect your computer from the power source
and for safety remove the battery, then take the memory cover off
once you removed you will see a small screw on the side under the
edge of the memory cover remove it carefully so it doesn't fall
inside your machine then stick your finger inside and apply a small
amount of pressure to the back of the drive it should pop out with no
problem. The back of your drive has a small metal bracket you have to
remove it with a screwdriver and attach it to the sd-r6372 the same
way it was on your old drive. Then you can take the sd-6372 and
slided into your 1905 series. The only problem is going to be that
the 1905 series drives have a non standard faceplate for the drive so
it's going to look a bit different you might have to file the
faceplate for the sd-r6372 a bit and it's going to look different but
it will work fine. The ones I bought came with a grey faceplate they
had the black faceplates available as a separate option but since the
only difference was the color. I didn’t buy them. If the one you get
come with a black faceplate let me know or if provides so you can use
the 1905 faceplate. The ones I purchased for my customers didn’t have
either the black faceplate or provided so I could replace the
faceplate for the 1905 faceplate. Let me know if you have any
questions.
Sincerely,
Adalberto
