Accessing SATA hard disk via e-sata cable

Hello,

i have external hard disk with power supply connected to it. earlier i was connecting the hard disk with SATA to USB converter recently i bought SATA to e-SATA cable to connect the disk to my laptop. my loptop detects the Disk but i am unable to access the disk.
please suggest, thanks.

does windows disk management see the drive? if so then it may just need something simple like re-assigning a drive letter. if not then try leaving it plugged in and restart the laptop, can you access it afterwards? if so then you probably need to enable AHCI (to get hot-swap funtionality).
