Hello, Im confused by variety of benchmarks on the internet, I want to buy a laptop with either Geforce 555m or 6850m (ddr3) - acer lineup. In general these are similar performance GPUs but.. when it comes to OC 555m is briliant can reach 13.5k or even 14000 in 3dMark 06 what about AMD HD6850m ? (ddr3) version. in Vantage and 3dMark 2011 it is a fraction faster than 555m and 6770.. I wonder how does it OC (mem, Core) etc anyone has tested ? Thanks in Advance.

They are all very similar in performance. 6850M is the best, but the difference is hard to tell, and they perform differently depending on the matched hardware. Not sure about OCing laptop video, never tried it.

Check these links for performance of the cards in various games; keep in mind the systems may be different then your specs, so if you can provide CPU/RAM info of the systems you are looking at, it would help.

6850M: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6850M.43079....
555M: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.419...
6770M: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6770M.43955....

I honestly think you'd be okay with any of the cards... however it seems the 555m and 6770m are regarded as better...

Seems like 6770M>555M... 6850 should be better but I don't see it in the numbers... so take that in consideration. Don't forget it is very important as to which hardware you pair with these cards...

Hi digitalzom-b, thanks for a quick reply, so you're saying 6850 ddr3 should be best of three?, I was already looking at notebookcheck.net but cant clearly figureout the winner because there are various 555m versions as well as 2 versions of 6850 (ddr3 and ddr5) so you can't judge by just the scores, unless you choose and see the actual system and version of the card in a specific test (wchich you can do actually on notebookcheck) in this case 6850ddr3 seems to have performance in pair with 555m and 6770 the question is how much can 6850m ddr3 be OC'ed.. if one can rise the clocks it can be really fast, can it? I can't find any benchmark results on 6850 ddr3 OC'ed thou. I have read a lot of 555m vs 6770 comparison and OC tests.. it seems both cards are very capable in considering "safe" overclock. what about OC in 6850, cant find any review info on this subject.

btw. you asked about system..im considering one of the three laptops.. the only 6850m laptop available in my country (Poland) is

Acer 7750 ACER 7750 17HD+ i5-2430M 8G ram 750 Hdd HD6850 Win7 which is very good laptop..

next one is MSI GE620DX GE620 i5-2430M 4GB 500 GT555M (2Gig version seems to be DDR3 and 128) - but 11.5k in 3dMark 06 which is very fast for a Stock 555m

the last one is dv6-6150ew i5 4GB 500GB HD6770M Win7 with HD6770 there is a
i7-2630QM version of DV6 as well.. (but I don't mind having i5)

all three in similar price range. I am mostly into 6850m so would consider Acer the most.
