How to put all my data onto an external HDD?

Hello,
I am buying an external hard drive to move all my data onto so i can send in my laptop for repairs. Once i have bought it how do i transfer everything onto the hard drive? Thank you.

You could clone your drive using software such as Acronis True Image.

Alternatively, if you only wish to backup your data, then you could simply drag-and-drop the files from source to destination.

I assume that the computer is not working so you will have to remove the hard drive and fit it in another computer or fit it to a USB to SATA/IDE converter to another computer and back up your data.
