This might be impossible. I have a setup like this: in a straight line [tv with 2.1 speakers]------[couch][desk with speakers and screen][chair]

HDMI cable from my ati 5770 carries sound to TV.

I want to be able to turn my speakers on my desk around and become rear output and create a surround sound effect when I sit on my couch. I don't want them to double front sound, just reproduce the rear sound from my 5.1 and 7.1 outputting media. I use windows 7.

Does anyone know how to do this, both on the software and hardware end?

Cheers,

Will

Well - have given it a lot of thought, and haven't come up with anything 'workable' yet - but perhaps my assumptions are wrong... If I've got your intentions right, when using TV for media, you want the HDMI decoder doing the fronts, and the comp's pair 'acting as' the 'rears', but otherwise, you want the comp's speakers to act as a standard stereo pair - without having to reconfigure your sound driver setup every time you switch from one setup to the other?
