Despite you misconception that the router is on your laptop -- you do need to access the router to find out the wireless security passphrase for your adapter.

It's a little complicated to explain (and to be honest I think we're all fed up with explaining it to the hundreds of people who raise the same question because they've neglected to write down their passphrase).

Have a look at the literature which came with your router (the full manual may be on the CD -- or download it from the maker's site) especially the section about setting up wireless security.
