I built my current computer about a year ago, with an i7 processor using 3GB (3x1GB) of DDR3 Triple Channel RAM (Spec: OCZ, DDR3, 1333Mhz, CL7(7-7-7-20), 1.5V). I'm now wanting to upgrade the RAM.
I was thinking of buying another 6GB, and am just wondering if I can simply add another set of RAM (6GB) to the mobo with it all being okay (I have 6 slots), so I would have 9GB in total.
I know the memory speed needs to be the same, but I don't know if the new RAM will affect the old in any way (as they're two different Triple Channel kits.) The new RAM I was looking at was: OCZ 6GB (3x2GB), DDR3, 1333Mhz/PC3-10666, CL9(9-9-9-20), 1.65V.
Will the different latency timings, and voltages make any difference? (like it would if I was to put RAM of a higher speed in there). Also, is the "1333Mhz/PC3-10666" actually different to regular "1333Mhz" RAM?
I hope you guys can help.
Edit: If I got the same 6GB RAM as mentioned above, but with timings of 7-7-7-20 - that would be better wouldn't it? Would there still be any problems with compatibility with the old RAM?
