One Last Question/Trying to put CPU in-cannot get "latch" downLGA 1156

I feel like a retard. I figured out the I/O plate, but now I am having installing the CPU-the problem is not getting the CPU in the socket-the problem is getting the "latch" back down flat on the motherboard.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong-the CPU is in there correctly..
I can't even get the "latch" flat without th-e CPU in there..

**I am not that dumb...I installed multiple CPUs before in my old AMD motherboards-those went in easily
 
Have you removed the plastic protective cover for the motherboard pins? Also be aware that some force is required to lock down the lever. It's not much; just be sure the cpu is flat. It should fall in place if you line up the notches correctly.
