Can i update my CPU with this motherboard?

i have this computer with hp dc7100 4gb ddr, and the motherboard is 365865-001 LGA SOCKET 775 MOTHERBOARD. Can i upgrade the CPU to a dual core? Right now it has a p4 3.2ghz. I have ATI 4650 video card. 500w coolermaster power supply. its my sons computer that he mainly uses form gaming.

No. But if you can change out a motherboard, I recommend you find the "boston" msi 7525 hp motherboard on ebay. It will run many core2 duo cpus, and possibly some quads. I used it for several months before trading it.

There are a lot of Motherboard CPU combos out there at a reasonable price that run dual core or quad core. But you'll most likely will also need ddr2 memory unless you already have it now. Google a search for cpu motherboard combos or go to PortaTech.com and check out all the different combos they have.

Stick with an hp board if you don't want to lose your hp windows installation. You still may have to format, but you can use your hp coa sticker to reactivate windows. With a non hp board, you may have problems.
