Hello,
I tried both suggestions and it did not help. The "drop shadow"s etc. was already checked and the "lock web items" was already unchecked.
I can change the color (somehow it ended up blue), but not get it transparent.
Any other ideas?

I think it also can relate to *.html files on desktop, or having an *.html file as wallpaper and not an image file that might be causing this.
But if that's not it then download this :
http://www.sillysot.com/download.htm

Install, run and check Transparent background.

Postcript- when my son got home, he figured it out for me. He said he chose the color grey, and that worked!

Thanks for the suggestions!
