What settings of a 9800 gtx+ video card draw more power ?

This is in regard of my 600 watts realwatts pro psu that is insufficient in providing the full power to my i7 920, 9800 gtx+ video card so i have disabled 2 cores of the cpu, disabled turbo mode, hyperthreading and now want to know which settings of my video card should i disable or reduce so that it requires less power too ? Please help.

What PSU(Manufacturer) do you have? An i7(Overclocked) with GTX260, 6gig of ram, won't draw more than 400W on load.

You're getting bad advice if you are turning off those features.

zebronics realwatts pro 600 and whenever i enable ht or turbo mode, my system would hang while playing heavy games.

that sounds like one of those super cheezy power supplys that has 3 to 4 power rails..

you have probably overloaded 1-2 of the 12 volt rails and have another with no/light load.

try determining which cables are on which rail and spreading the load better


that is one of the reasons the best power supplies have one rail.

my pc power & cooling has 1 70amp rail.

a generic 700watt would have 3-4 15 to 18 amp rails.

I just do not understand these rails at all ! I have 2 six pin connectors connected to my 9800 gtx+ are these 2 rails ? Which one is the 3rd rail ?
